Meet your tutor

A specialist in economics. A mentor for everything around it.

I’m Alex, an economics and maths tutor and academic mentor based in London. For nine years I have helped students from GCSE to university raise their grades, find their confidence and work out where they want to go next.

I hold an MSc in Development Economics from the University of Sussex, so economics is my specialism: growth, trade, inequality and the policy choices that shape them. Maths sits alongside it, because the two subjects reward the same clear, careful thinking.

Outside the classroom I’m a climber and filmmaker, and I follow investing and global politics closely. Those interests come into every session. Students see how markets move, why governments make the calls they do, and how to stay calm and keep going when a problem gets hard.

Subjects

Two subjects. One way of thinking.

Economics and maths reward the same habits: define precisely, model carefully, test the result. Students who learn both this way find each one easier.

Alex has simply been a wonderful tutor and source of support for Julian over this past academic year. Alex managed to raise Julian’s confidence and consequently his results very effectively and very quickly.

We are very pleased and grateful to Alex for all the hard work that he put in to help Julian get that A he needed to gain a place at his top-choice in New York. We would highly recommend him and his academic services.

Global lens

Strong evaluation starts with the real world.

Examiners reward answers that use real evidence. Sessions bring in current cases from central banks, trade disputes, elections and development policy, so students learn to weigh competing arguments with confidence.

Exam technique

Every long answer, built to the mark scheme.

Economics essays are marked against four assessment objectives. Students learn what each one asks for and how to hit it on purpose.

AO1 Knowledge

Define it precisely

Accurate definitions and correctly labelled diagrams.

“PED measures the responsiveness of quantity demanded to a change in price.”
AO2 Application

Use the context

Bring in the data and the situation the question describes.

“Using Extract B, the fall in sterling raised import prices.”
AO3 Analysis

Build the chain

Link cause to effect, one logical step at a time.

Higher rates → less borrowing → lower consumption → AD shifts left
AO4 Evaluation

Make a judgement

Weigh magnitude, timing and what the outcome depends on.

“The impact depends on the size of the rise and the time lag before it bites.”

Progress tracking

Every topic, tracked to done.

Each student gets a topic tracker mapped to their specification. It shows what is secure, what we are working on and what comes next, and it feeds into the written progress reports.
